Anthropic has released Claude Tag, a new feature that keeps its Claude AI active and available inside Slack as an always-present team member. According to TechCrunch, the product goes further than a simple chatbot integration: it is designed to absorb company-specific context, institutional knowledge, and workplace workflows over time. For businesses already running Slack as a core communication tool, this is a direct pitch to make Claude the connective tissue of how teams think and operate.

What happened

Anthropic launched Claude Tag, a Slack integration that gives Claude a persistent presence in team channels and direct messages. Unlike a bot you ping occasionally, Claude Tag is described as an always-on AI teammate, one that sits inside conversations and builds up an understanding of how a specific company communicates and operates.

According to TechCrunch, the feature is not purely a productivity tool. Anthropic is explicitly positioning it as a way to capture organizational context: the kind of tacit knowledge that lives in Slack threads, decision logs, and informal team discussions rather than any formal knowledge base.

Why it matters

This is a meaningful shift in how enterprise AI is being sold. Earlier AI assistants answered questions on demand. Claude Tag is designed to accumulate context passively, becoming more useful the longer it stays in your workspace.

That has real business implications:

  • Competitive lock-in. The more organizational knowledge Claude absorbs, the harder it becomes to switch to a different AI provider without losing that context.

Our take

Claude is genuinely one of the better large language models available right now, and there is real value in having an AI that understands your company’s specific context rather than starting from zero every time. We get the appeal.

But the framing here deserves a closer look. “Learning your company” sounds helpful. It also means a third-party system is ingesting your team’s unfiltered internal communications on an ongoing basis. Most businesses do not have a clear policy on what their AI tools can read, store, or use for model improvement. Before rolling out Claude Tag to your whole team, that question needs an answer.

The strategic angle is also worth naming plainly. Anthropic is not doing this purely as a convenience feature. Capturing institutional knowledge is how enterprise software companies build switching costs. The more Claude knows about how your business works, the more expensive it becomes to leave. That is not necessarily bad, but it is worth understanding before you opt in.
