Claude Pro, Max and Team Plans Now Priced in Indian Rupees

Anthropic has started rolling out Indian rupee pricing for its Claude AI subscription plans, with Claude Pro listed at Rs 2,000 per month when billed annually and Claude Max starting at Rs 11,999 per month. The pricing is appearing for some users on Claude's website and mobile apps as of mid-July 2026. India is Anthropic's second-largest market globally, accounting for 5.8% of all Claude usage, and the company has been building local presence through a Bengaluru office and enterprise partnerships with Infosys and TCS.

Anthropic began surfacing local currency pricing for Indian users across its website and mobile apps in July 2026. The rollout is still partial, meaning not every user sees rupee prices yet. According to Anthropic, India makes up 5.8% of global Claude usage, placing it second only to the United States.

One notable gap: UPI (Unified Payments Interface), India’s dominant digital payment rail used by hundreds of millions of people, is not yet accepted. For now, payments go through credit or debit cards, or through Apple and Google app store billing.

What else is happening with Claude in India

Anthropic opened a Bengaluru office earlier in 2026 and brought on Irina Ghose, former Managing Director of Microsoft India, to head its India operations. The company has also signed enterprise agreements with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to expand business-facing AI deployments across the country.

Separately, Anthropic extended its Claude Fable 5 promotional period. Free access, originally set to end July 12, has been pushed to July 19, 2026 at 11:59:59 PM PT. During that window, subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and premium Enterprise seats can use up to 50% of their weekly subscription limits on Claude Fable 5 at no extra charge. Anthropic also confirmed the 50% increase to Claude Code weekly usage limits runs through the same date.

Why it matters

Local currency pricing removes a meaningful friction point. Paying in rupees means no foreign transaction fees, clearer budgeting, and easier corporate invoice reconciliation. For Indian startups and agencies evaluating Claude as a core tool, this is a more practical arrangement than billing in dollars.

At Rs 2,000 per month, Claude Pro works out to roughly $24 at current exchange rates, slightly above the US price of $17. The Max plan at Rs 11,999 is around $144 versus $100 in the US. Our take

Rupee pricing is a signal of intent, not a fully built market strategy yet. The UPI gap is conspicuous and Anthropic will need to close it fast if it wants traction beyond enterprise clients who can pay on a corporate card. The Irina Ghose hire and the Infosys and TCS partnerships suggest the initial focus is squarely on the large-enterprise segment, where dollar billing was never really the obstacle.

For businesses already using or evaluating Claude for AI integration into their workflows, the rupee pricing makes budgeting and internal approvals cleaner. The Team plan at Rs 2,399 per seat is the most relevant tier for most small and mid-size teams. That is a reasonable cost for what the model can do, particularly for coding, drafting, and analysis tasks.

Watch for UPI support as the indicator of whether Anthropic is serious about the developer and SMB segment, not just enterprise logos.
