Google Ads Editor 2.13: AI Max Comes to Shopping Campaigns

Google Ads Editor 2.13 is rolling out with a significant set of additions for PPC advertisers. The headline feature is full AI Max support inside Shopping campaigns, covering automated text generation, URL expansion controls, brand lists, and URL exclusions. The update also adds Customer Retention Goals for Performance Max, Maps placement for Demand Gen, and native Channel Performance reporting. On the deprecation side, creating new Video Action campaigns is no longer possible in this version.

What happened

Feature Detail
AI Max in Shopping Automated text generation, URL expansion, brand lists, URL exclusions
Performance Max Customer Retention Goals for re-engaging existing customers
Demand Gen Maps placement support added
Video ads New Business Name and Business Logo fields for responsive and non-skippable formats
Reporting Native Channel Performance reporting now in Editor
AI disclosure User Attestation field for AI-generated image and video assets
Deprecated Creating new Video Action campaigns removed

Google Ads Editor 2.13 brings AI Max (Google’s suite of AI-powered campaign automation tools) into Shopping campaigns for the first time in the desktop editor. Previously, advertisers who wanted to configure AI Max features in Shopping had to leave Editor and work inside the Google Ads web interface. That context-switching is now gone.

The update also adds the User Attestation field, a compliance control that lets advertisers declare when image or video assets have been AI-generated. This matters as platform policies around AI-generated ad content tighten across the industry.

Why does this update matter for Shopping advertisers?

Until now, AI Max was already available in Search and Performance Max campaigns within Editor, but Shopping was left out. Version 2.13 closes that gap, meaning teams that manage large Shopping feeds offline can now apply the same AI-powered controls without switching tools mid-workflow.

The Customer Retention Goal addition in Performance Max is also worth noting. Optimising toward re-engaging existing customers is a different objective from pure acquisition, and being able to set that in bulk through Editor is useful for accounts running loyalty or reactivation pushes. If you need help structuring these campaigns correctly from the start, our Performance Advertising service covers that kind of setup.

Channel Performance reporting coming natively to Editor closes another long-standing gap between the web interface and the offline tool. Advertisers can now review channel-level data without exporting to separate reports.

What is being retired

Video Action campaigns can no longer be created in Editor 2.13. Google migrated Video Action campaigns to Demand Gen some time ago, and this update removes the creation option entirely. Existing Video Action campaigns are not mentioned as affected, but any new video campaigns should be built as Demand Gen from this point forward.

Our take

This is one of the more substantive Editor releases in a while. For agencies and in-house teams doing bulk campaign management, feature parity between the web interface and the desktop tool is genuinely important. Every time a feature was web-only, it broke the bulk-editing workflow and introduced the risk of inconsistent settings.

The AI Max Shopping addition is the one to act on first. If you are already running Shopping campaigns and have been waiting for Editor support before rolling out AI Max, that blocker is gone. Test URL expansion controls carefully though. Automated URL expansion in Shopping can send traffic to unexpected landing pages if your URL exclusion lists are not set up properly before you enable it.

The User Attestation field is worth building into your asset upload process now, before disclosure requirements become enforcement issues. We have seen similar compliance fields go from optional to required faster than teams expect. What to do about it

  1. Update to Google Ads Editor 2.13 from the Help menu if the update has not arrived automatically.
  2. Review your Shopping campaigns and configure URL exclusion lists before enabling AI Max URL expansion.
  3. Set up Customer Retention Goals in any Performance Max campaigns that have a reactivation or loyalty objective.
  4. Add the User Attestation field to your asset upload checklist for any AI-generated creative.
  5. Confirm you have no pending Video Action campaign builds in your pipeline and redirect them to Demand Gen.

Update Editor, lock down your URL exclusions, and test AI Max on a single Shopping campaign before pushing it across the full account.
